Privacy Policy

The short version. Frankie is a study app for the U.S. citizenship test. We know that people studying for that test have real reasons to care where their information goes, so we collect as little as we can.
We never ask for your immigration status, A-number, case number, or any detail about your application. Your answers during the practice interview are not scored, not saved, and never leave your phone. Frankie carries no advertising, does not build an advertising profile of you, and never sells your information to anyone. We do use crash reports and basic usage analytics to catch bugs and see which parts of the app are actually helping people study — see Section 3.
If you sign in, we store your Google account email and your study progress so it follows you between devices. That is essentially all of it.
This policy explains what MUJO LLC ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") collects when you use the Frankie app or studywithfrankie.com (together, the "Services"), how we use it, and what rights you have. Questions or concerns go to jacob@getmujo.com — a real person reads that inbox.
1. What we collect
In Short: your Google account details if you sign in, your study progress, an email address if you join the beta list, and basic server logs. Nothing else.
Account information. Frankie is usable without an account. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive from Google and store your email address, your Google account identifier, and your display name if you have one. We do not receive your Google password, your contacts, or anything else from your Google account.
Study progress. When you are signed in, we store your progress so it syncs across your devices: which lessons you have completed and your scores, which questions you have seen and how often you got them right, your XP and streak, the questions you have saved, your chosen voice, and your study settings. If you have told Frankie which state you live in, that state is stored with those settings so the state-specific civics answers are right.
Purchases. If you buy a paid plan, Google Play handles the payment — we never see your card details. We store the purchase token Play gives us and what Play tells us about that purchase’s status, so we know whether to unlock paid features.
Beta signup email. If you leave your email on studywithfrankie.com to hear when the beta opens, that email is all we store from that form — no account is created and nothing else about your visit is attached to it. We use it only to email you about the beta, and you can ask us to delete it at any time (Section 10).
Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records ordinary request information such as IP address, user agent, and the time of the request. This is used to keep the service running and secure.
2. What stays on your device
In Short: some things are deliberately never sent to us.
- Your ZIP code. If you enter a ZIP code to find your state, the lookup happens entirely on your phone against a list bundled with the app. The ZIP code is stored locally and is never transmitted to us.
- Your practice interview answers. The personal and eligibility questions in the mock interview — the ones modeled on the N-400 — are not scored, not recorded, and not stored, on your device or ours. Frankie asks them so the practice feels real, then forgets them.
- Your progress, if you never sign in. Without an account, your progress lives only on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
3. Crash reports and analytics
In Short: we collect crash diagnostics and basic usage analytics to keep Frankie working and improve it — never to advertise to you.
Frankie uses crash-reporting and analytics tools so we can catch bugs, see what breaks, and understand which lessons and features people actually use. This can include: your device model and OS version, the app version, error/crash logs and stack traces, and anonymized usage events (e.g. "completed a lesson", "opened the mock interview") with rough timing and screen names. These tools are tied to a random installation identifier, not to your name — if you are signed in, a crash or event may also be associated with your account so we can investigate a specific report you send us, but it is not used to build an advertising profile, and it is never sold or shared with advertisers.
We do not currently run advertising SDKs, and any crash-reporting or analytics provider we use is listed in Section 5 once it is wired up, so this page stays accurate rather than aspirational.
4. Microphone and speech recognition
In Short: Frankie can listen so you can answer out loud. We never receive or store the audio.
Frankie asks for microphone permission so you can speak your answers during practice instead of typing them. The speech-to-text conversion is performed by your device’s own speech recognition service — on most Android phones that is Google’s, and its handling of that audio is governed by Google’s privacy policy and your device’s settings, not by us. Frankie receives only the recognized text, uses it to check your answer, and does not send the audio or the transcript to our servers. You can decline the microphone permission and type instead; everything still works.
5. How we use information
In Short: to run the app, sync your progress, unlock what you paid for, and keep the service secure.
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To save your progress and make it available on your other devices.
- To determine whether you have access to paid features.
- To respond to you if you contact us for support.
- To keep the Services secure, debug problems, and comply with the law.
We do not use your information to build an advertising profile, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.
6. Who we share it with
In Short: only the handful of providers needed to run the app. No advertisers, no data brokers, no sale of data.
- Google — for Sign in with Google, and for verifying Play purchases and subscription status.
- Vercel — hosting for our website and API.
- Our database provider (Neon / Vercel Postgres) — where account and progress records are stored.
- Crash-reporting and analytics providers — to receive the diagnostics described in Section 3. We will name the specific provider(s) here once they are integrated, and update this page first.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so — a court order, subpoena, or other valid legal process — or where it is necessary to investigate a security incident or protect someone’s safety. If we are ever compelled to disclose your information, we will tell you unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.
If the company is ever sold or merged, account information may transfer as part of that business. We would give notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
7. Cookies and tracking
In Short: no advertising cookies or pixels on our site or in the app, anywhere.
studywithfrankie.com does not set advertising cookies and carries no ad or attribution tracking pixels. The app’s analytics and crash reporting (Section 3) are not advertising trackers — they do not follow you across other apps or websites, and we do not use them for ad targeting. The app stores a session token on your device so you stay signed in; that is a credential, not a tracker.
8. How long we keep it
In Short: while your account exists, and no longer.
We keep your account and progress for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account record and everything attached to it — progress, settings, entitlements, and purchase records — from our live database, and it ages out of encrypted backups within 30 days. Server logs are retained for a short period by our hosting provider for security and debugging.
9. How we protect it
In Short: encryption in transit, access limited to what runs the service.
All traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS. Data at rest is stored with our database provider’s encryption. Access to production data is limited to what is needed to operate and support the Services. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that transmission over the internet is free of risk, but we take this seriously and design to hold as little as possible — the least sensitive thing we can store is nothing at all.
10. Your rights and choices
In Short: you can see it, correct it, take it, or delete it. Just ask.
Whatever jurisdiction you are in, you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- give you a copy of it;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and the information attached to it.
Email jacob@getmujo.com from the address on your account and we will action it within 30 days. We will not charge you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
You can also stop us collecting anything at all at any time: use Frankie without signing in, or sign out and uninstall the app.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you (running your account and syncing your progress), our legitimate interest in keeping the Services secure, and your consent where we ask for it. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children
In Short: Frankie is for adults.
Frankie is intended for people 18 and over and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and if the change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
